Nice Work If You Can Get It

Nice Work If You Can Get It

Nice Work If You Can Get It was performed at Weathervane Playhouse in Newark, Ohio from July 30-August 8th, 2015. With nineteen actors, a ten-piece band, and lots of dancing, this show was no small feat. Director Adam Karsten and I wanted this show to be grand but also encompass several tender moments.

This show had several unique challenges. A ukulele was played by an actor who emerged playing it from a pit in the stage. I accomplished this by attaching a wireless microphone to the rear of the ukulele body. I then was able to mix the microphone like any other microphone and send a feed of it back to the orchestra.

There was also quite a bit of tap dancing in this show. Director Adam Karsten, choreographer Karen Karsten, and I wanted the tap dancing to sound much more present during the tap only sections. I accomplished this by installing floor mics at two corners of the stage and brought them up during the tap solos. This made the tapping more grand and a greater part of the music and design.
